The never ending project is my daughter’s room. It’s no secret that I ran out of steam, time, and money when it came to finishing her room before her birth a year ago…yes, a year ago! Maybe I should be embarrassed, but the truth is, that’s life! You can have the greatest intentions, but things happen. I am learning not be too hard on myself. That being said, I’m slowly starting to work on her room again! Specifically I’m looking at some brass hardware to update her painted antique dresser. Insert heart eyes!
In my house growing up, we had this set of antique dressers. One was tall and thin and the other was short and wide. It was like jack sprat and his wife. 😉 They had belonged to my Pop-Pop.
Sometimes they were in the basement.
Sometimes they were in the guest room.
Sometimes they were in my room.
They went to college with me.
They were in my first apartment after college, and came with me when I moved into my first (and current) home. They sat in our guest room, but were filled with our “overflow” of clothes.
When I was pregnant with my daughter, my second child, we had to turn the guest room into her bedroom. At that point I decided to use the dressers. I was so excited to use them in her room. It means so much to me to be able to bring a little bit of my Pop-Pop into her life. He was very special to me, and we were close. He was jolly, so loving, and really really funny! That’s where I get it. Because I’m really really funny.
They created such a cheerful vibe for the space based on their history. The only problem was that they were very dark. Too dark for a cheerful space. I decided to have them painted, since I was very pregnant at the time. I had them professionally lacquered in white dove by Benjamin Moore by the same amazing team who I use for my ETSY furniture. At the same time, I also had them spray my Pop-Pop’s wooden rocking chair. My son’s room had a soft upholstered rocker from Restoration Hardware Baby & Child, but I really wanted to use the wooden rocker, because it had belonged to my grandfather. You can see some of my son’s nursery pictures in THIS post.
The pieces turned out beautifully! I love the bright color in the room, and they always make me smile.
I was going to leave the wooden pulls on the dressers (which were also painted), but I kept thinking about replacing them with brass hardware! I would convince myself to keep the original wooden hardware, and then I would continue to daydream about the brass hardware! Eventually I gave into my dreams and started the search for brass knobs and pulls!
One of the reasons that I tried to convince myself to keep the original hardware was because it was FREE! Keeping that in mind on my search, I knew that I needed affordable brass hardware, preferably under $10 per pull! I found several, and I’m actually having a hard time deciding! I want to share them with you, so that you can see that you can get brass hardware for the same price as a cup of coffee! Some of these come in packs of multiples, so don’t yell at me about the price before you look at how many come in a pack!
