I seem to have a slight obsession with cacti! At least that’s what it looks like on my blog! I swear I just stumble upon them.
For example, I was flipping through a Society 6 catalog the other day, and I saw this little guy in a grouping of prints. How cute is this!?

First, I didn’t know that Society 6 had a catalog. Second, does anyone actually look at catalogs anymore!? Honestly, I would look at more catalogs if I had more time.
Kids, it’s where we used to have to look for design inspiration before Pinterest! Haha!
Society 6 is an amazing website offering original artwork as consumer goods from hundreds of thousands artists around the world. You could find things like a cool pillow or digital print for sale on this site.
The prices vary depending on the artist and what you are looking at. This little Linocut Cactus print costs $38 framed before shipping. Now $38 dollars isn’t terrible for a framed piece of art, but I was inspired to try to create one myself, and $0 is better than $38!
I have been working hard at learning Photoshop on my own, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to try out my skills.
I could not be happier with my Adobe Creative Cloud Photoshop membership. It gives me access to the latest versions of Photoshop for a monthly fee. I have used many FREE design/editing programs and continue to do so for certain things, even though I now have Photoshop. However, I will say that Photoshop is hands down the best program for design and editing! I have been able to do so much more than I was able to do before.
Along with Photoshop, I have been using images, text, and more from the “All in One Mega Pack” by Nicky Laatz at Creative Market to create prints, gift tags, etc.!
If you are not familiar with Creative Market, it is an online marketplace for all things design! It offers graphics, WordPress themes, stock photography and other digital items. If you sign up for their emails, you can receive a variety of FREE design items every week!
This megapack is what I used to create my little black and white cactus. The designer provides the designs and then I am able to alter them and make them into whatever I choose!
I changed the shape of the original cactus, and then I used the “Eraser Tool (flat brush)” to add some dimension and texture to the cactus. I wanted it to look more like a linocut print, which is a print made from a design carved in relief on a block of linoleum. The Society 6 print above is a linocut print.
There’s always room for improvement, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! Here’s your FREE print!
