DIY Halloween Crayons
Oh, your kid forgot to tell you that you’re suppose to bring in thirty Halloween goodie bags for their Halloween party next week?? Ha!
Well, I’ve got you covered! Thank goodness for Amazon Prime two-day shipping!
This FUN and EASY DIY project is one that you can accomplish before next week’s Halloween party. And you can even make your kids help! They’re not off the hook! 😉
Ok, but really it is fun to do together! My son LOVED breaking the crayons. What 3 year old wouldn’t want to do that!?
Heck, what frustrated parent wouldn’t want to do that?
You could add whatever you like to this Halloween goodie bag! I ended up adding some fake bugs to finish them off!
Details to DIY the Halloween Crayons:
Materials Needed:
1. Halloween Baking Molds (I used this one and this one. HERE are more!)
2. Crayons (These come without the wrapper! Less work for you! Yay!)
3. Party Bags
4. White Crinkle Cut Paper Shred
5. Happy Halloween Tags (These are genius! They peel off, but are not sticky! What!?)
6. Green and White Baker’s Twine
7. Scissors
10. (Black and White Striped Straws)
11. (Fake Bugs)
Step 1:
(If you do not purchase the crayons without wrappers, you will need to remove the wrappers of the crayons before this step. Soak the crayons in hot water and dish soap for about ten minutes. The paper should just slide right off.)
Choose the colors you would like to use. You can go solid, or mix it up! Break the crayons into fourths and fill the silicone molds.
For the molds that I used, I recommend filling them to the top. However, if you have a very deep mold, you might want to adjust the number of crayon pieces you put into the mold. If you don’t fill your molds with enough crayons, your Halloween crayon will be too thin and break easily.
Step 2:
Place silicone molds on a baking sheet to prevent any wax from spilling onto your oven.
Step 3:
Bake crayons for 20 minutes at 250 degrees.
Step 4:
Remove crayons from oven very carefully. The wax will be very hot liquid at this point. Let the wax cool for approximately thirty minutes. You can place the silicone molds on a cooling rack.
Step 5:
After the crayons have fully hardened, slowly and gently push the crayon out of the silicone mold. (If it starts to break, STOP! That means it needs to cool for a longer amount of time.)
Step 6:
Place white crinkle cut paper into the bottom of the party bag. Put the crayons on top of the shredded paper. Peel off the Happy Halloween tag and write your message on the back. Loop the green and white twine through the hole on the Happy Halloween tag and tie it around the party bag.
Now you are ready for your kid’s Halloween party! Only 29 more to go! 😉
DIY Halloween Crayons
I ended up adding little fake bugs to the Halloween party bags that I found at the Dollar Tree! HERE are some more fake bugs that I found on Amazon.
I bought these adorable little ghost silicone molds to fill with some crayons, but I haven’t tried them yet. I can’t wait to see how they turn out! I’ll post a picture…if I get to them. Ha.
You could add some candy, glow sticks, or whatever you want to the Halloween party bags!
Maybe next year I’ll start selling these, so that you don’t have to do anything for your kid’s class at the last minute!
