Dollar Store Pumpkin Crayon Holder
I saw these little carvable pumpkins at the Dollar Tree during Halloween, and I picked up a couple of them. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them, but I knew they would turn into something adorable!
I held onto them through Halloween and just couldn’t think of anything. Then November hit, and I started thinking about my table settings for Thanksgiving, because we are hosting this year! Ahh!
How could I actually make the food, get it on the table, and have a conversation!?
Crayons!!!
And the carvable pumpkin!
What a cute centerpiece the Crayon Pumpkin would make, and it’s the perfect place to keep the crayons!
I plan on using this white craft paper from Amazon as the tablecloth for the kids table. Heck, I might even use it for the adult table!
I thought the kids could draw right on the table (paper)! Although I love the idea of a crisp white table, I’ll let that go real quickly, so that I can actually have a drink and eat a bite of food without standing…for once.
I love that the design possibilities are endless when creating these Pumpkin Crayon Holders! I wanted mine pretty simple, so I sprayed them white and added the world “thankful” on one and a little glitter on the other.
Imagine several of these in a line on a kids table!? They would even be perfect for a kids fall birthday or Halloween party depending on how you decorated them!
Details to DIY the Dollar Store Pumpkin Crayon Holder:
Materials Needed:
1. Carvable Foam Pumpkin (update: I saw these styrofoam pumpkins in Party City today!)
2. Sharp Knife or Pumpkin Carving Kit
3. Cup
5. Scissors
6. Paint (white spray paint or craft paint)
8. Glitter
10. Crayons (Crayola or Playskool)
(11. White Craft Paper)
Step 1:
Remove the stem from the pumpkin. It is held on by a toothpick, so if it gets stuck, you can use scissors or pliers to remove the toothpick.
Step 2:
Trace the paper coffee cup (or any other circle-shaped object) to make a circle on the top of your pumpkin. You will cut this out to create a hole.
Step 3:
Cut out the circle. Don’t worry if the edges are a little jagged. The cup will cover them.
Step 4:
Place the cup into the hole and trace around the cup, so that you can trim the cup to fit in the hole.
Step 5:
Cut the cup just below the traced line.
Step 6:
Place super glue around the edges of the pumpkin hole. Push the trimmed cup into the hole, stopping when the top edge of the cup is flush with the top of the pumpkin. DO NOT PUSH TOO HARD OR YOUR CUP WILL END UP INSIDE THE PUMPKIN.
(I used super glue because the glue gun glue was a little messy, but it could be a possibility!)
Step 7:
Paint the pumpkin! I used spray paint, but you could use any craft paint. DO NOT SMOTHER THE PUMPKIN WITH PAINT OR ELSE IT WILL START TO GET A LITTLE BUMPY AND SHRIVEL.
STEP 8:
Add letter stickers, GLITTER, or anything else!!!! I used my gold paint marker to color over the white letter stickers. You can have your kids decorate the pumpkins also!
Step 9:
Place the crayons inside the cup and enjoy an uninterrupted Thanksgiving dinner! Ha…or at least until someone spills something.
