With part of our nation still under stay at home orders, a staycation might be the only type of vacation for many people this summer! That’s no problem, because these outdoor decorating ideas can create a serene spot on your porch or deck! Even better, I’m recreating the look for $500!

$500 Outdoor Decorating Ideas
I am so excited to share the start of my “555 Room Challenge!” This project has been about 12 years in the making!
We have ignored our side porch since we moved into our house about 12 years ago. Our side porch is in some serious need of some TLC! There is missing paint, chipping paint, holes that need to be filled, and some major cleaning that needs to happen! I know people who repaint their porch every year, but that’s a little ambitious for me. Every 12 years seems reasonable! Ha!
We live in an American foursquare style home with a side porch. The door on the side porch is the door we use most often. Therefore, the porch gets a lot of foot traffic. We love the side porch, but as the way that it is now, we really don’t use it. It’s rundown and it is not inviting for our whole family.
Over the years, I have gathered different furniture. The most recent being some white wicker furniture that I found on craigslist, through trash-picking, and at a thrift shop. Now that our kids are a little older, and because our house is only 1,800 square feet, it’s nice to be able to use the side porch as extra space. Let me add that during a pandemic it’s really nice to have some extra room during the summer!

I have had lots of time time to plan these outdoor decorating ideas for my side porch makeover, and it’s not a surprise that my porch will be filled with DIY projects and budget finds! Here are some other DIY projects you can check out that I created for a cheaper cost!
DIY Lego Storage for Small Spaces
My outdoor decorating ideas mood board is a rough idea of what I’m trying to achieve in my side porch makeover. I’m going to use things that I already have. Some things will stay as they are and others will get an update!
Our goal is to make this space more user friendly. We bought THIS table from World Market two years ago and added some bistro chairs like THESE to go with it, but the space still didn’t feel cohesive and really wasn’t inviting. We want to eat out there and relax out there. Eventually we want to entertain out there if we can ever have people over again!

There will be three areas in the side porch makeover as you can see from the outdoor decorating ideas mood board. We will have the dining area, the seating area, and the serving area with the potting bench turned bar cart.
Let me give you a little peek at what I’m working with and then where I plan to go! All of the sources seen in the design board are linked below!

Stay tuned for next week when I’m sharing all about preparing your porch for painting! It might not be glamorous, but it is a very important step!

I’ve always found reading blogs to be a relaxing experience.
This blog was really informative, and I particularly enjoyed the fact that it highlighted the numerous Indian interior designers who have such diverse tastes.
I’d like to emphasise that we deal with interior décor and furnishings that complement these designers’ preferences while staying under budget.
