World Market Inspired Yarn Cone Trees
I came across the trees below on World Market and almost fainted! They are the cutest little things! I LOVED the colors and their cute little star ornaments. I was looking for some holiday decor to use in my colorful Christmas playroom. I ended up using a different color palette in the playroom, but I decided to “pin” these for the future or whenever I wanted to make them…because I knew I would!
I hadn’t really planned to make them at this point, but then I was in the dollar spot in Target and saw these precious mini wooden stars and a set of larger stars as well! At that moment I knew that the blog gods must want me to DIY these little trees! I already had yarn from my DIY Cloud Garland and another project. (You can find yarn for under $5 anyway.) So basically I just needed the cone shapes!
You can add this to the EASY project list! It always makes me happy when a project is EASY and turns out like it should! I am a mom of two little kiddos, so nap time and after bed time is the only time I’ve got!
You glue the yarn on the top of the cone, wind it down the cone putting glue every so often to hold it in place, wind the yarn back up the cone and glue it to the top! Add your stars and you are DONE! You can find the step-by-step instructions below.
I added these adorable trees to my dining room holiday table, and I couldn’t LOVE the look more! The colors are so fun and cheerful, but somewhat soft and not too in-your-face! I’m obsessed. I’ll be posting pics of my tablescape soon!
Details to DIY the World Market Inspired Yarn Cone Trees:
5. Mini Wooden Stars (I got mine from the Target Dollar Spot. THESE look exactly the same!)
6. Small Wooden Stars for top of tree (I got mine from the Target Dollar Spot. HERE is a variety pack of different star sizes!)
Step 1:
Add glue to the top of the cone. Coil the yarn around the top of the cone until the top is completely covered with yarn.
Step 2:
Continue to coil the yarn around the cone placing hot glue on the cone at every couple of turns. You can even place a thick line (about an inch long) of glue down the cone and continue to wrap the yarn. Then repeat this until you have worked your way down the cone.
Step 3:
Once you have glued the yarn all the way down to the bottom of the cone, start wrapping it back up to the top! However, don’t wrap it neatly with one strand beneath the next. You want the wrap to be uneven to create some dimension.
Step 4:
After you get to the top of the cone again, cut the yarn so that you can coil the end of the yarn around the top again.
Step 5:
Place some hot glue on the back of one of your smaller stars. Place the star on your tree. Repeat until you are happy with the placement of all of the stars! (I used glue dots, because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep the stars on the trees. The trees looked very simple and clean without the stars. Or do they look bare? I can’t decide!)
Step 6:
Glue the larger star on top of the tree and repeat for the other trees.
