Wooden Nutcracker Ornaments Garland
I have always loved nutcrackers! They remind me of the holiday season. I’ve always displayed nutcrackers at Christmas, but my neutral loving heart has been looking for some natural wood or white nutcrackers the past few years. In fact, last year, I ended up taking some dollar store nutcrackers and painting them gold and white for a classic Christmas mantel! Check them out in my post, “Painted Dollar Store Nutcrackers!”

This year, since I was part of the 12 Days of Christmas blog hop, I was gifted my choice of ornaments from Oriental Trading. When I was looking through their ornaments selection, I found these little raw wood nutcracker ornaments. They have SO many different wooden ornaments along with a plethora of other adorable ornaments! The little nutcracker ornaments were too cute to pass up! I also got some clear plastic ornaments that can be filled with items or decorated any way you can imagine!
I love the look of raw wood and white mixed together, so I decided to make my wooden nutcracker ornament garland with a very natural vibe. To make my ornaments garland, Deco Art generously sent me a package filled with their Americana line of craft paint and their Galaxy Glitter line of craft paint. They offer so many different colors of craft paint that is high quality and easy to use! I used the white paint from the American line to paint my nutcrackers. The paint dried quickly and covered very nicely!
I used some white yarn that I had and made some white pom poms using the white yarn as well. This was only the second time that I’ve made pom poms, but I’m addicted! I just made some for my “DIY Kids Advent Calendar Stocking!” The pom poms add a bit of whimsy to the garland.

How to DIY the Wooden Nutcracker Ornament Garland:
Materials Needed:
- Nutcracker ornaments
- Decor Art craft paint
- Small paint brush
- Yarn
- Bakers twine
- Sewing needle
- Scissors
- Optional- Plastic ball ornaments
- Optional- Glitter
Step 1:
After deciding your layout and colors, paint your nutcracker ornaments your color or colors of choice. If you choose a darker color, you might need to use two coats, but it dries very fast!
Step 2:
The nutcracker ornaments have a hole at the top so that you can feed some string through them in order to hang them. I used some thin baker’s twine to tie a loop onto the ornament. You might need to use the sewing needle to push the twine through.
Step 3:
Figure out your layout of nutcrackers and pom poms or ball ornaments. Tie the nutcracker ornaments and other embellishments that you chose to the yarn.
Step 4:
Tie a loop at the ends of the nutcracker ornament garland so that you can hang it easily. Hang the garland where you choose!
Wooden Nutcracker Ornaments Garland
I LOVE the neutral nutcracker ornament garland, BUT…my kids wanted something a little more colorful! I used the Decor Art paint and mixed the colors together to make some fun colors for our playroom garland!
After brushing glue onto the plastic ball ornaments and dipping them into glitter, I added them to the nutcracker ornaments garland.
This is an easy way to create a custom piece of Christmas decor for your home or your kids! I even had my kids help to paint the nutcracker ornaments! If you are looking for some Christmas decor inspiration, make sure to check out my Holiday Shop!
