Inexpensive & Easy Superhero Party
I had so much fun putting together my son’s fourth birthday party! As you can tell by the title and all the pictures, he requested a Superhero themed birthday party. I gladly accepted the challenge! I was not looking to spend a lot of money on the party, so I used a lot of things that I already had and some DIY skills to make it happen! I’m not usually one for bright primary colors, but I just love how they worked together for the party.
Here are the details on how I threw an inexpensive & easy superhero party:
DECOR
This is the fun part! Actually it’s all fun for me. When you think of superhero party decor, you definitely think of bright colors. Of course you can use any colors you like, but I found it easy to use black and white with pops of bright primary colors!
The first thing I did to prepare my table is to line it with white craft paper that I keep in stock from Amazon. It serves as a great table cloth and my kids also use it as art paper! I bought some adorable superhero masks from Amazon and placed them above each place setting so that each child would get a mask along with his or her party favor.
My dining room got adorned with yellow tissue paper pom poms and colorful balloons that I already had, along with some new balloons that I got from Party City. I purchased a superhero garland kit from Shindigz, an online party store. It was the first time that I bought something from them, and I’m thrilled! The garlands are even sweeter in person! I used one superhero garland in the dining room with my “Happy Birthday” banner, and placed the other two garlands from the kit on my living room mantle.
Free is even better when it comes to party decor!
Using black spray paint and white paper, I transformed ordinary boxes into a superhero cityscape! I placed the skyscrapers in my dining room with some of my son’s giant building blocks to look like a city and free printables to give it a little pizzaz. The rest of the cityscape boxes went on my mantle with black and white polka dot balloons and the adorable superhero garlands! You can see more pictures of the superhero mantle HERE!
To hold the balloons on the table I diy-ed little stands using some old baby puffs containers and balloon sticks! I’ll be posting on how to make them soon. My son’s superheroes and giant building blocks came to play while decorating for the party.
Let me just say thank you a million times to those of you who created free superhero printables! I used them throughout my son’s superhero party. It saved me a lot of money, and allowed me to add some pretty cool details to the superhero party! (HERE is the first set of free printables from Catch My Party, and HERE is the second set I used from Meaningful Mama!)
PAPER PRODUCTS
I recommend using paper products that have bright colors! We had black paper dinner plates left over from my husband’s 40th birthday party, so I used them as a solid backdrop. The colorful “BOOM” dessert plates added that punch of color that was needed for a superhero party! I didn’t get a picture of the appetizer napkins, but they looked like the dessert plates and said “KRUNCH!”
I wrapped white plastic silverware in black paper napkins, and secured the napkins using some of the free superhero print-outs! The black and white striped straws also got a special touch using the same free printables. They’re just the sweetest little superhero straws!
FOOD
My blog is not a food blog for a reason. 😉 However, I do enjoy baking! I made the cupcakes and used some colorful cupcake liners. Then I piped the icing and added the rainbow sprinkles! The 3-tiered superhero cupcake stand from Shindigz was the perfect centerpiece to the superhero table, because it was practical and adorable at the same time! It was inexpensive and easy to put together. I also made Captain America shields, which were a tasty treat that totally went with the theme and color scheme.
For a savory snack I rolled up colorful construction paper into cones and poured some popcorn into them. I stuck the cones into the holes of the giant building blocks! It was a sweet little way to serve the treat!
PARTY FAVORS
Party favors are a great way to add some super cute details to your party that your guests can go home with! Once again, you DO NOT need to spend a lot of money on favors. You can easily make items to go in your goodie bags or find things at the Target dollar spot or dollar store!
I’m totally into slime! Maybe even more so than my son. I made it for my daughter’s “Sky High Birthday Party,” but decided I’d purchase it this time to save me some time. Honestly it costs less than purchasing the supplies if you buy the small containers for $2.00 each! I got mine from Slime Kingdom by Reagan on Etsy. They are the perfect size for party favors!
The next item in the goodie bag were wall-climbing superheroes that I scored at the Target dollar spot! Amazon has similar ones. To customize the slime containers, I bought superhero stickers, which I decided to add to the gift bags as well.
I always keep a stock of plastic gift bags, crinkle paper, and baker’s twine
on hand. Neither cost a lot of money, but make such a sweet way to display the party favors! If you missed them above, scroll all the way down for all of the source details!
