The Philly Home Show Experience
Last week I attended The Philly Home Show for the first time as a DIY workshop leader and a blogger! I had been a few times in the past as a regular home owner, but this year was way different! Since I started my blog a little over a year ago, I have been able to do some pretty cool things. The Philly Home Show experience blows every one of those things out of the water!
Clint Harp Interview
My friend Michele, from Sweet Threads Co., and I began our morning at The Philly Home Show with a “two on one” interview with Clint Harp! Head over to Michele’s blog to hear all about her experience as well! You heard that correctly! Michele received an invitation to a private meet-and-greet with Clint, and she invited me to be her plus one! Little did we know that we would be the only bloggers interviewing him or that we would be eating gyros with him at Reading Terminal Market!
Just in case there might be one or two of you who aren’t familiar with Clint Harp or Harp Design Co., he was Joanna and Chip Gaines’ carpenter on the show “Fixer Upper!” He and his wife, Kelly, founded Harp Design Co., where they build handmade furniture. It’s been a big year for Clint! Last year he and his wife starred in their very own TV show on the DIY network, “Wood Work,” where they created custom furniture for clients. He also just released his book, “Handcrafted: a woodworkers story,” an inspirational memoir. Stay tuned for a blog post devoted to our Clint Harp interview!
Make It Take It DIY Workshops
We also took part in the Make It Take It series at The Philly Home Show. This series was started by Denise, from The Painted Home, about four years ago as a way for people to be introduced to the latest DIY tips and tricks and allow them to take home a craft. It has been a huge hit and has been showcased on several of the local news channels. It’s the perfect way for attendees of the home show to connect and engage with those people who have their finger on the pulse of the current DIY trends!
We led two DIY workshops on how to create a simple spring tablescape and make wooden bead and tassel napkin rings! We were so pleased with how the workshops filled up! We had to turn people away because we didn’t have enough seats! You can read more about the Make It Take It series and how to DIY the wooden bead and tassel napkin rings in my blog post on Wednesday! I’ll be sharing all about how to make the napkin rings and the DIY workshops!
The Philly Home Show is filled with tons of practical information and sources for home products, but also a lot of home decor eye candy! One of my favorite parts of the show is the design rooms. These are rooms that are created by bloggers and designers for a specific theme. This year was small concrete spaces. Essentially, these were outdoor spaces that you might find in the city. All three rooms were gorgeous, while being very different. I loved that, because it provided lots of inspiration and ideas for a variety of styles! Here are some snippets of the three design rooms!
We had an amazing experience and hope to return to The Philly Home Show next year! It also provided us with some more exciting things to come! As I mentioned above, stay tuned to more posts about our Clint Harp interview and the detailed steps on how to make the wooden bead and tassel napkin rings!
