30 Days to Simplify Your Home
Raise your hand if the moment your head hits the pillow, your brain starts spinning a million miles a minute!
(I’m raising my hand!)
You are exhausted after a day of working inside or outside of the home, but you start ranking the items on your TO DO list in order of what needs to be completed first, second, third, etc.! This is SO me! My TO DO list seems never-ending, and I usually feel like I have a ton on my plate! Some might say that this is called adulthood or motherhood, but I’m not buying it!
I’m not sure what comes first, but I know for a fact that if my house is messy and disorganized, my brain feels the same way! Life is crazy enough and your brain has a way of getting filled up VERY quickly!
In order to calm your mind, you have to Simplify Your Home!
Have you ever heard of “mommy brain?” I’ll blame it on “mommy brain” if you say no.
Whoever created this term, made no mistake when naming it! Moms are constantly trying to keep track of everyone and everything and every so often (more often if you are like me) something slips through the cracks and we forget a birthday party (oops) or that the clothes are in the washer (eww) or where we put our phone (darn it)…for the millionth time!
This epidemic isn’t just affecting mommies though! Anyone who is living a normal 21st century life can end up feeling this way!
I’d like to say that if I could just declutter a few things and get even more organized, I’d be good to go! Unfortunately, that’s not how life works or at least, that’s not how it works for me! Organization is a constant battle! Over the past year, I’ve been working at decluttering and organizing my home.
Just take a look at my post, “How to Organize a Small Linen Closet,” which started it all! It even made it onto the Country Living website!

There is an absolute connection between your surroundings and how you are feeling in your head. I have noticed that when I’m doing a good job at keeping up with the organization and getting rid of the clutter, my mind has room to breath! If my kitchen is clutter-free, I have the SPACE and TIME to think about other things and not feel overwhelmed. In other words, if you simplify your home, it creates more room for creativity and happiness!
So the obvious first step is to get down to business and start decluttering and organizing your home, right!?
It might be for some of you, but if you are like me, you might need to start smaller…like really small, and that is totally fine! I am a “collector” by nature…to put it nicely. I can blink and next thing you know, I’ve “collected” a trash picked kid’s desk, a bamboo coffee table, and two bags of kids’ clothes from a friend! That being said, I have “collected” many things over the years and a lot of them are still sitting in my basement or attic. Some of them I plan to use, and some of them I need to get rid of, but the thought of starting there, gives me anxiety!
That’s why I want to start with manageable tasks to simplify your home! I have created a 30 day checklist to simplify your home! These tasks are easy and can be accomplished within a few minutes to a few hours in most cases. As you complete these steps on your checklist, you will build momentum and gain the confidence to tackle the larger stuff after the 30 days are over. They also will allow you to have a more organized and decluttered home!
Let’s get started!

Before we start the 30 day checklist to simplify your home, let’s go over a few things.
I am planning on starting my checklist on July 1. You don’t need to wait for me, but I’d love to do it together! That being said, you can always hold off until the timing is right. Don’t wait too long though, because there will never be a perfect time to start!
Try to begin your task at the same time every day. I’m home with little kids, so I totally get it if it’s just not possible to work on this at the same time every day. If that’s the case, try to squeeze in some time at any point!
The checklist is meant to start healthy habits of decluttering and organizing, so I recommend following the list pretty closely. If you have time to do a couple of items from the checklist in one day, feel free, but I don’t suggest doing 15 items in one day! It takes about 30 days to create a new habit, so that is why I chose 30 days!
This checklist is something that you can always come back to time and time again. Like I said above, organization is a constant battle and more like a continuum rather than something with a beginning and end. It’s a system of checks and balances. There will be times in your life that you are better at staying organized than others, but it’s all about just getting back on track!
It won’t be completely easy, but these 30 days will be defining in creating a happier you and a happier home! I can’t wait!
