Serena & Lily Knock-Off Dip-Dyed Wooden Stools
If you have been reading my blog, you should know by now that I’m obsessed with Serena & Lily, but not with their prices! I recently splurged on some of their Lamu wallpaper in bone for my kitchen, but that was for my birthday!
However, it’s not something that I can do all of the time. Therefore, I have to get creative when wanting their look!
I have THIS bamboo stool in our full bathroom upstairs, but it is not getting the use that I thought I would. I originally had gotten it to sit on while bathing my kids, but it doesn’t make washing them much easier. I’m still breaking my back leaning over!
So I thought that I would bring it downstairs to my powder room as I update the space for the “$100 Room Challenge” that I am part of! Not sure what I’m talking about!? Here’s the short version…I’ve got one month to update one room with $100! You can see my vision board from Week 1 of the challenge and read more about it HERE!
Like I was saying, I love the look of the Dip-Dyed Wooden Stool by Serena & Lily (below), but since I already had a stool that wasn’t being used, I thought I’d take advantage of it and save some money! The price for the small Dip-Dyed Wooden Stool actually isn’t that bad, but I decided to save the money!
This project is SO easy! All I did was tape off a section of the legs and paint it white! The legs had a natural break in them from the bamboo, so I placed the tape there. You can choose any color of course! I chose white because I had white paint left over, and it went well with my design plan.
Details to DIY the Serena & Lily Knock-Off Dip-Dyed Wooden Stools:
Materials Needed:
- Wooden stool-(HERE is the one I have.)
- Paint-(I used white high-gloss enamel because I had some left over.)
- Painter’s tape
- Paintbrush
- You could always use spray paint as well.
Step 1:
Tape off the ends of the legs with the painter’s tape. Wrap the tape around the legs trying to keep it level all the way around.
Step 2:
Paint two coats of paint on the sections below the tape. Before the paint dries completely peel the tape away from the legs. Then you are done!

It turned out really cute! It gives me that simple classic look that I see in Serena & Lily images. Sure it’s not exactly the same, but it works for me! These stools are great for so many places! The bathroom, by a fireplace, a kid’s room!
