Adding greenery from outside and using gold plastic flatware is just a couple of ways to create this festive, but cost effective table setting!

A Classic & Inexpensive Christmas Tablescape
I’ve been scaling back on my Christmas decorating this year for a few different reasons. This time of year I already feel crazy, and filling my house with an excess of stuff makes me feel claustrophobic! I’m trying to use things that I already have or buy things that are inexpensive.
This Christmas, I bought very few things. The dark green napkins are from the Hearth & Hand line at Target, and I got them on clearance for about $2 for four napkins! I bought the best faux pine garland ever from Pier 1 (50% off right now!). I hadn’t planned to put it on my table, but when I did, I loved it! It looks so real! I bought several of these garlands. You can see them in my post, “How to Create a Classic Christmas Mantel.”
How to Create a classic and inexpensive Christmas Tablescape:
The first item I added was the gray and white striped tablecloth from Home Goods. I wanted a lighter neutral base, since my table is dark. You can find a similar one below.
Next, I added the wooden chargers that I already had. THESE chargers are the perfect backdrop to any plate during any season! I got them on clearance at Kirklands in the summer.
I placed my white dinner plates and salad plates on top of the chargers with the napkins in between. I love putting the napkins on the plates rather than on the side of the plates. My table isn’t very big, so it allows for more room in between each place setting and it focuses the attention on the plates when looking at the table.
Then I used my secret weapon! The gold plastic flatware that I got at Party City! The cost of flatware is unreal! Using plastic gives you the ability to get the look on a budget. Not to mention that you don’t need to clean it! I know sustainability is a concern, but I only use these on special occasions!
To match the gold flatware I spray painted some old faux fruit gold! I love how they pop against the other colors on the table, but in a very subtle way! If you aren’t into DIY, HERE are some gold faux fruit already done for you!
I saw some beautiful images on Pinterest of free flowing winter greenery in a large glass vase. I decided to use the greenery right out my front door and a large glass vessel vase from Pottery Barn that I already had! HERE is a similar one from Target. Using nature in your decorating is such a wonderful way to save money and create a very natural look! Check out my “Fall Home Tour” to see how I used nature for my place settings!
In the images that I saw on Pinterest, the greens had some vintage looking glass ornaments on them. While I thought they looked beautiful, I wanted something a little less formal looking. I decided to make wooden bead ornaments out of some leftover wooden beads and discs that I had from my “DIY Wooden Beads Garland.” I also felt like the wooden beads would stand out against the deep green branches from the evergreen trees.

I’m planning to share how I made the wooden bead ornaments in a post soon, but they are super easy! And don’t pay too much attention to the wrinkled tablecloth! I’m only human! Ha!
Overall, I went with a very nature-inspired tablescape that was extremely affordable! The neutral colors of the table cloth and the plates allowed the greenery to pop!
