It’s time for some spring cleaning and organizing for your home! Everybody does it a little differently, but everyone has the same goal in mind…Get More Organized!
To get more organized, it’s no surprise that 99% of the time, you need to get rid of some stuff! If you need help, there are so many professional organizers who can help you. You can even find some organizers who will help you virtually! There are challenges you can take online and worksheets you can find on Pinterest.
Every novice organizer knows that it works best to divide the stuff into three piles: trash, donate, keep. After you do this, you are ready to start finding a place to put everything. But what do you really need!?
As someone who has found it very difficult to get organized and stay organized, I have found a few things that have helped me tremendously!
- Having a designated place to put everything is the first battle.
- The second is having the right home organization products.
- The third part is up to you, but if you have the first two steps in place, you can definitely make it a habit to put things away after you use them.
It’s definitely a work-in-progress for me, but that means you can do it too!

Family/Paper Organization
This acrylic wall calendar by Circle and Square Decor is what keeps our family organized (seen above in our house and below on her site)! It was so worth the money in order to stay on top of all of our schedules, but also because it is stunning! To see more of my personalized acrylic wall calendar, head to my post, “Family Command Center: Acrylic Wall Calendar!” I share how I’m getting my family organized by creating command centers.
Paper doesn’t stand a chance if you have system in place. It doesn’t have to be complicated, there just needs to be a spot to hold the the paper. I use Russel & Hazel binders to keep track of household things and school materials. Your binders don’t need to be fancy. They just need to work! Although, I find having some adorable home organization products makes me take more pride in my organizing!
I also have THIS back of the door organizer that holds time sensitive papers and anything that needs to be addressed in a more immediate timeframe. You can see how I personalized this wall organizer below and see more in my post, “Family Command Center: Back of Door Storage!” There are so many cute ways to turn this plain home organization product into something adorable!

Playroom Organization
Anyone who has kids, raised kids, or knows any kids, understands that toy clutter can be a reason for a nervous breakdown! Finding a place to store all of the tiny toys that kids love to have is key to keeping your house clean and your brain sane! I like finding attractive and easy to use bins to store my kids toys.
If my kids or I had to open up a bin with a lid and then close and clamp the lid, the toys would less likely be put away. It sounds crazy, but one extra step and we would be thrown off! There’s no shame in knowing your limits. In fact, it helps to know what you are willing to do or not do. Don’t get me wrong, my house is still a mess when the kids are playing, but I am working hard at teaching them to put stuff away when they are finished. I have always had trouble with this! It doesn’t come naturally to me, so I find ways to make it easier for myself, like these open baskets and toy bins! You can check out my post, “Fabric Storage Bins & Other Organizing Solutions” to see some of the other adorable bins that I use or recommend!
We store all of our books on the main floor in the playroom using these long white picture ledges. I like that the books face out. It adds character to the playroom. The kids can easily put them back, because they don’t have to squeeze them between other books! There are two sizes for the picture ledges, so you can decide if you want small or large. We have the large size to capitalize on as much storage as possible!
Kitchen/Mudroom Organization
We don’t have a mudroom, we have a “mud-corner!” Ha! Seriously, that’s what I call it. It’s a corner in our kitchen where we hang our coats, the kids backpacks, and store our shoes. We don’t have a coat closet either. You can see the upper half in this picture. The kids’ hooks are hung lower on the wall with the calendar. In order to keep that corner organized, I have used a few simple things that go a long way.
This is the boot tray that we use on the floor to hold our shoes. I try to limit it to one pair of shoes per person. Sometimes I have the energy to fight this fight and sometimes I don’t. Either way, I know that this is where the shoes will go so that they are not all over the house!
One of the most important parts of keeping my kitchen organized is the food storage containers that I use! These are the best! They keep the cabinets organized and the food fresh. We don’t have a pantry, so these help us maximize our food storage in the kitchen. I used my Cricut Explore Air 2 cutting machine to make labels for the food storage containers. You can see more in my post, “Organize Your Kitchen with the Best Food Storage Containers & Labels!”

Bathroom Organization
We only have one and a half bathrooms in our house. Our full bathroom is small in size, so we have to be smart with our storage. A lot of what might be kept in the bathroom, is kept in our linen closet, which you can see below! Bath toys, just like regular toys can end up taking over the bathroom if you aren’t careful. I’ve figured out a way to organize the bath toys so that they are out of sight! The smaller ones I keep in the bathtub using a simple DIY project from the Dollar Store and the larger ones are kept in belly baskets that I waterproofed using tubs from the Dollar Store! See the post here , “DIY Bath Toy Storage with the Dollar Store!”
These are all $15.00 or less!

We do have a small vintage cabinet that I painted white to hold some of the smaller beauty products, etc. In order to separate and store these items, I purchased several clear plastic bins from the Dollar Tree! They come in different shapes and sizes and work great! They are very similar to these:
Closet Organization
Closets have always been a sore spot in my organizational habits! They are so easy to let go, because all you have to do is close the door and forget about them! You should have seen my linen closet before! You can check it out in my post, “How to Organize a Small Linen Closet!” Seriously, you have to go look at the before picture! It’s scary! If I didn’t have the following home organization products, I would not be able to keep my linen closet in order!

Our bedroom closets are small as well, so we have to use every inch of them. By using storage baskets, storage bins, shoe racks, and a double hang closet rod, I am able to make the best use of the space! The next step is to get some matching hangers in here to make the space look even more cohesive! Baby steps is the name of the organization game!
Kids’ Rooms Organization
My kids’ rooms are in constant need of purging and organizing! How does this happen!? I can barely keep up, but having storage bins has made the job a littler easier for me. Target is one of my go-to places for storage bins. You can see more in this post, “Fabric Storage Bins & Other Organizing Solutions.”
To keep the books organized in my kids’ rooms, I use THESE white picture ledges. I like being able to see the books. We keep the smaller books in the small fabric storage bins seen above and the larger books on the picture ledges. I added a little scalloped edge to give them some more character!
Here are the white pictures ledges that I use to display books:
Of course I have more home organization products that I use around the house, but these are the main pieces that I use on a daily basis and have had the most success with at getting organized and staying organized! Organization is a constant battle against my kids and myself. Don’t feel badly if your house is a mess. Don’t let your mother, husband, or anyone tell you that you are not doing your job! Just keep trying your best to get organized and eventually you will get there! Be proud of your baby steps. I know I am proud of mine!
