I might be a little late to the spring cleaning party, but the important thing is that I’m here! Unfortunately, my house is going to need to need more than a cleaning to feel refreshed! It’s time to declutter, throw away, give away and get organized! You’re not the only one who doesn’t have hours to devote to organizing and cleaning your home each day, so join me as I find ways to create an organized home a little bit at a time!
Get Organized: The Hot-Mess House Challenge
After searching for my phone for hours and finally finding it in the refrigerator, I knew that I needed to get back on track to getting organized! Although my fridge is one tidy place at the moment thanks to my recent post “Organizing the Refrigerator with the Dollar Store,” there are plenty of other spaces in my house that are a HOT-MESS!
Back in the new year I teamed up with a friend of mine, who is a home organizer, to bring you all “The Ultimate Guide to Staying Organized!” It was a detailed four-part series that covered everything from paper clutter to kids’ clutter! (Take a look at Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, or Part 4 to get you in the organizing mood!) After a few months, my organizational fire burned out, but I’m ready to ignite it once again!
With a four-year-old and an eighteen-month-old, I have my work cut out for me to get organized and cleaned up, but I want to inspire you and show you that you can do this! Let’s take back our homes with one storage bin at a time! That’s why I’m starting this Hot-Mess House Challenge! I guess it should be the Hot-Mess House No More Challenge, but that seemed a bit long. 😉
I’m not giving you a deadline, because I start to sweat just thinking about having one! I don’t have blocks of hours every day to devote to cleaning and organizing my home, and I doubt that many of you do either! Think of this as the “However many weeks it takes to get organized home challenge!” If you need more structure, follow along with me. If you like to do things at your own pace, choose your own schedule!
My Plan to Get Organized
I tried to start this challenge in the spring, but life has a way of getting in the way! I had planned to get organized while also doing some spring cleaning. I am not someone who finds cleaning easy or fun. It’s a challenge in itself! With summer at our doorsteps, it’s the perfect time to start this challenge! Start cleaning out all that stuff that you’ve let pile up throughout the year!
I plan to go room by room, rather than how I normally do things, which is all over the place! To keep my focus on getting organized, I’m not going to let myself buy any decor or organizational materials for the room until the room is completely decluttered! It’s quite the incentive and a great way to save money!
Once my challenge is complete, you’ll be able to pull up each challenge room and finish it as you please! You can pull a few all-nighters and complete it in a few days if that works for you. We all have different things going on in our lives, a different number of rooms in our house, and a different number of kids, so a “one size fits all” timeline to get organized and cleaned up is NOT going to work for everyone! See below for the FREE printable Home Cleaning and Organizing Checklist!
