Command Center Ideas
It’s the new year and now is the time to get organized! I always find it invigorating to declutter and get organized. That doesn’t mean that my home is always clean and tidy, but I enjoy working toward this goal! It’s a never-ending goal in my mind, because there’s always something to be organized! Last year I started my “Hot-Mess House Challenge” where I challenged you to work along side me to take control back from your house! Stop letting your house control you by starting to find a place for everything.
The organizational project that made the biggest difference was my linen closet! You can see the before and after in my post, “How to Organize a Small Linen Closet.” I’ve also tackled my kitchen and the cabinet contents! You can see that in my post, “Organize Your Kitchen with the Best Food Storage Containers!”
An area that needs addressing is my nonexistent command center! If you are not familiar with a command center, it is where you store ALL THE THINGS! Read below to see what is found in a command center.
What does a command center include?
- a calendar with everyone’s schedule
- a filing place for each family member’s loose papers
- a charging station for phones and ipads
- a place for incoming and outgoing mail
- a weekly menu
- a chore chart
What you decide to put in your command center will depend on what your family needs. That’s the fun of it!
I have been looking at many command center ideas and have an idea of what I’d like to include in mine! Before I did a refresh on my kitchen and added wallpaper, I had a little command center by our wall coat hanger. It consisted of a calendar and a magnetic board. I liked having a calendar, but the magnetic board consistently got cluttered with papers! It sounded like a good idea at the time, but now I’m interested in a filing system for any loose papers. In the picture below, you can see the space to the right of the wall coat rack that I’m planning to use for my command center!
Update:
Check out the new wall calendar I chose for “Part 1 of my Family Command Center” HERE! I absolutely love it and it has been keeping us organized for months!
You can also check out “Part 2 of my Family Command Center” to see where I found some extra storage!

That space is small, so I’m not planning to have a bunch of things there. The idea is to get rid of the clutter not to make it worse! In my search for a way to organize this area, I came across some cute command center ideas and accessories!
