Living Room Toy Storage Ideas-Hiding Toys in Plain Sight
Our house is old and under 1,800 square feet, so storage space is as difficult to come by as a unicorn! We are lucky enough to have a playroom that is 9×12, but…do your kids seriously keep every toy in the playroom?
Without having a large play area to keep all the toys, they end up in every room! In all honesty, I don’t really mind that.
The reason I don’t mind having toys in almost every room on our first floor is because everything has a place where it belongs!
When we think of toy storage ideas, they are usually designed specifically for kids. They’re often bulky and only come in one design style. That might work in a kid’s bedroom or a play space, but you usually want something a little more discreet for living room toy storage ideas!
Since toys ended up all over our house, even after the great purge of 2018, I decided that I had to up my toy storage game! I had to have a space for everything, and I wanted it to blend with my design style. My design style includes natural elements, neutral colors, and bright spaces.
I was able to find pieces that I loved and that were kid-friendly for our living room toy storage organization ideas! The kids can easily use these items and know where things belong.
Although I have to ask them to clean up a million times, they have no trouble putting everything where it is stored! I really had so much fun finding ways to store our toys in the living room that aren’t too obvious! All of our toys are hiding in plain sight!
Here are my top ideas for Living Room Toy Storage:
Magazine holders
Baskets
Office storage boxes
Small decorative boxes, baskets, containers
Plastic storage bins for under couch
Magazine Holders:
Magazine holders are my first living room toy storage idea! You can find them really cheap! I like that they come in so many different colors and patterns, so if you like neutrals or bright colors, they definitely have a style you’d like! We keep our drawing paper, colored construction paper, and magazines for projects in our magazine holders. Obviously you could keep anything you want in them. At one point I even had the crayons and markers in one!

Baskets:
I use baskets all over my house! We could not live without them. They are a great way to keep like items together, especially when the items are different shapes and sizes and don’t fit perfectly in rectangular or square bins. I love using baskets for organization, but also because they add texture to a space! Let’s face it, woven baskets are gorgeous! You can pay a pretty penny for baskets or find them for a very reasonable price! I have rectangular baskets, round baskets, baskets with lids, and more for my living room toy storage organization. I keep coloring books, activity books, games and more in them!

Plastic Storage Bins for Under the Couch:
Since our house is only 1800 square feet, I really have to use every inch of storage available to me! For my fifth living room toy storage organization idea I have started using under the bed storage bins under my couches. These hold large things like our giant legos, race car tracks, etc. Obviously it depends on how much room you have under your couch, but a 6 or 7 inch bin, without the lid, should fit perfectly!
When in doubt, stick any big toys behind a couch or a table. If you can’t escape the plastic paradise that comes with young kids, find a way to hide it!
